Every day of my life brings opportunity to hear the mind of God on any issue, because He resides in my spot. He is included in all of my thoughts and goes with me wherever I go. We become more and more One. (And this is available to all!)
I have had long conversations with the Creator about issues in the news and everything that affects our world. Since he dwells with all of the news makers as well, it is good to note what is going on in their spaces, even though we are only seeing a veiled view of truth. Even so, multitudes who believe in the Son do not really believe that he has control of everything. But I have learned otherwise, and have come to believe and know (in my spirit) that He IS sovereign!
This week in the national news was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court, though not the only one that was in the news. My focus is on the declaration that all states must allow marriage between homosexuals to be deemed legal. While this has brought celebration on one side of the fence, there is frustration and anger on the other. Faith had been put in the majority of the judges to stop this decision from being made. The outcome is also a sure showing that the Supreme Court (which isn’t supreme) is a house divided against itself.
Hard core followers of the Christian religion are standing against this ruling for obvious reasons. Yet sometimes it seems that “unbelievers” or outsiders have more compassion than those who believe in a loving God. And we do indeed have a huge movement in our society concerning tolerance of diversity of all kinds. Included in that movement are those who sincerely display God's unconditional love, those who want to defy any condemnation from religion, and those who just want to keep peace and get along (political correctiveness); some of these are denying their true convictions.
Convictions being what they may be, it is a very wise mind set that will be open to the acceptance of persons as they are, without condemnation--a trait that didn't reside in Jesus. He came to save and not to condemn. Jesus was not a religious person, for he cared for people more than rules. This speaks volumes about our most loving Father! Love covers a multitude of sins. No one is exempt.
Now, to speak of the heart of the issue that was debated and brought to a supposed conclusion by the Supreme Court: Defining marriage as such and such. And this is where it gets interesting. WHAT, really is being defined? There are levels of meaning for the reality of marriage. The laws of the land can only speak for the needs of the natural man, in whatever state he expresses himself. This includes society, family, emotional and monetary needs (insurance, etc.) Outward laws touch an area of our soul, but not all of it, and they don’t dictate to our spirit--which is God’s.
The word “marriage” is a broad term. We usually think of family. We usually think of union. Union can be body, soul, spirit. Any or all of those. Traditional marriage ceremonies among Jewish persons required the bride and groom to consummate the marriage (physically) in a private room at the ceremony to prove they had been united.
Obviously, homosexuals will never be able to do this in the normal format that speaks of the natural reproductive parts. Yet I cannot condemn those whose love and attraction leads them to an unnatural union--unnatural in the sense that no children will result from the union. (We only need go to a hardware store to find “male” and “female” connectors.)
It seems that the United States Supreme Court has legalized an impossible thing. But the natural man will only rule on what he deems necessary for the moment. And because God is in control of all of the decisions that come forth--and he is not just allowing them with frustration--we must embrace that there is purpose to this outcome. And every thing has its season.
All the laws in the world will not change the inner man. They never did. For this reason Moses was given outward rules and regulations to keep a sense of order and to set boundaries. God always knew that the laws couldn’t be kept, but He couldn’t allow chaos to reign. It was a beginning. An establishing of a strong structure, a firm foundation, so that when mankind increased in its soul and spirit, there would be a place they could always call home.
When God gave his commandments, they weren’t orders being bellowed at us. They were promises He was making. Promises that someday we would walk and uphold his principles without being told to do so. He would enable us – from within. His plans were laid: the Lamb that was slain before the foundations. The earthly coming and walk of Jesus would evolve into an inward coming and walk--one of the soul and spirit. Our desires would adjust to His righteousness as the Christ arose in each of us and continued to arise to mold and shape us into loving, merciful, compassionate, and kind beings.
Regardless of the heart of the individuals being given freedom to marry whomever they want, the bigger work is the one going on inside. While I know that a true natural union is not possible for those who are of the same gender, their heart and soul needs warrant their being accepted in their own “normal”. Of course, we cannot allow persons with “unnatural” tendancies to be spotlighted as a new movement of normal, for it is a mutated, deficit showing of a soul needing repaired. We cannot condemn, because we cannot walk in their shoes; neither can we change them. It IS for us, however, to love and accept them, and let God take care of any of the inner workings. We can’t see with the natural eye what is really happening “behind the scenes”.
In the meantime, mankind’s less than perfect laws can never legislate the spiritual man, but they can give those who are not accepted as “normal” an opportunity to live with less condemnation. This outcome is a merciful one. And for this situation and all others in our dysfunctional world, I know God will arise in each person's space in His own time and way, bringing balance and harmony without shame.
